QCAT acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which it works and pays respect to the Elders past, present and future.
About the artwork - Protect and Empower
The artwork was created by Waanyi-Kalkadoon artist Keisha Thomason, from Gilimbaa creative agency, with the following description of its meaning:
QCAT values true justice by balancing out the power and advocating for people’s rights. They are passionate Queenslanders that believe that people and their communities deserve the right to fair, unbiased justice; and to arm them with knowledge and support.
At the centre of the artwork is the QCAT shield to protect the people and serve true justice. The design has a dual meaning: the process of one's journey in engaging with QCAT to a solution; and also saltwater meets freshwater and the diverse communities all across Queensland.
Behind the shield are pathways of diverse journeys and lives across Queensland.
Surrounding everything is the ring, which represents the balance of power between communities and governance.
