1. Before you apply to QCAT

Architects are governed by the Board of Architects of Queensland (BOAQ).

The primary aim of the Board is to protect the public and uphold the architectural profession in Queensland.

If you disagree with a decision made by the Board, QCAT can review various decisions in the regulation of architects. Reviewable decisions include:

  • not taking any further action about the complaint;
  • cautioning or reprimanding an architect;
  • refusing an application for an architect’s registration;
  • refusing an application for the renewal or restoration of an architect’s registration;
  • not accepting an application for renewal or restoration of an architect’s registration; and
  • cancelling an architect’s registration.

(For full list of reviewable decisions please view the Architects Act 2002)

Before you apply to review a decision, you must ensure the relevant decision letter or information notice issued to you is included with your application forms. The letter sets out the decision made by the relevant authority and your review rights.
